While full-frame has gotten the most attention in recent years from camera manufacturers, there are plenty of good reasons to buy smaller format sensors like APS-C. These systems are often less expensive, smaller, lighter, and have a wider field of view than full-frame counterparts.
Photographers of sports or animals may find the latter feature particularly appealing.
Fujifilm is primarily focused on the APS-C format. Others, like Sony, Canon, and Nikon, focus on both full-frame and APS-C cameras. This means that, while the majority of these companies are focused on full-frame technology, such gains will at the very least trickle down to the smaller format devices. The nice aspect is that these cameras are typically less priced while maintaining cutting-edge technology.
What We're Focusing On.
In terms of how we measure price, size, image quality, adaptability, and other variables against one another, the phrase "best" can be a bit ambiguous. As a result, we've sought to strike a balance between those qualities while sacrificing as little as possible in terms of "picture quality."
Many of the camera manufacturers such as Sony, Nikon, and Pentax, use the same mount for their APS-C and full-frame cameras, which has the extra benefit of allowing full-frame lenses to be used on APS-C devices (and vice versa, with a crop).
As a result, we won't be included any full-frame lenses in this list because we want to concentrate on lenses designed particularly for smaller-size sensors. There are also some third-party lenses that are available in many mounts that are covered here; we will not rehash the same lens for each mount in these cases. In this situation, this article will present you with a variety of possibilities.
1. Canon EF-M 55-200mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM Telephoto
This 90-230mm (full-frame equivalent) zoom lens has an incredibly compact footprint, weighing only 260 grams and measuring 3.41 inches in length. It has a slim barrel and finely textured zoom and focus rings, as do all EF-M lenses.
Like other EF-M lenses, it follows the pattern of exceeding its EF-S equivalent in terms of image quality (in this example, the EF-S 55-250). Wide-open, it is razor-sharp across 90% of the frame, though it loses a little at the very long end. When you stop down to a point where the entire frame is resolving really well, everything improves.
2. Nikkor AF-P DX 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3G ED VR Telephoto
This lens, similar to the Nikkor 10-20/4.5-5.6 AF-P, is made entirely of plastic, including the mount, with no external switches or controls and no hood provided. It's also included in a lot of packages - or you can buy it separately for $400.
This lens delivers 450mm of full-frame equivalent reach, making it an excellent choice for people looking for a low-cost, lightweight lens without sacrificing image quality. Its upgraded AF-P motor, along with a top-of-the-line autofocusing system like the Nikon D500, making it a highly versatile and economical alternative for anyone interested in pursuing telephoto photography.
3. Fujifilm XF 70-300 f/4-5.6 R LM OIS WR Telephoto
The newest addition to Fujifilm's telephoto lineup, this lens tries to bridge the gap between the XF 100-400mm, which is hefty and pricey, and the cheaper, slower XC 50-230mm lenses. And it succeeds admirably.
This lens comes with a slew of useful features, including a 105-450 full-frame equivalent (roughly), 5.5 stop optical image stabilization, weather-sealing, a customizable ring, and a maximum magnification of 1:3.
Above all, it provides excellent image quality. Apart from the Fujifilm 100-400mm lens, which is near twice the weight, it easily outperforms Fuji's 50-230mm and 55-200mm lenses in terms of sharpness, aberration suppression, OIS effectiveness, and AF implementation.
